Definition of DSL
DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line. It is a broadband technology,
particularly a modem, which applies the unused frequencies on
the already existing copper telephone lines to supply service
access to the Internet and Intranets. It allows voice and data
to be sent simultaneously over the same line. This is done by
taking the two wire copper telephone wiring system and the already
present voice cables that connect customer premises to the phone
company's central office (CO), and turning this into a high
speed digital link.
This service can be used to deliver bandwidth - intensive applications like:
streaming sudio/video, telephone calling, video conferencing,
online games, and other high bandwidth services.
